Magic Moments was founded in 1984 with one goal in mind: To provide happiness and joy to the children of Alabama who have been diagnosed with chronic life-threatening conditions. Founded by Shelley Clark, a mother who was spending a considerable amount of time at Children’s of Alabama, and Buffie Marks, another Birmingham mother who volunteered in play therapy at Children’s, Magic Moments has provided over 5,000 magic moments for children all over the state of Alabama.
Magic Moments not only provides these children with non-medical opportunities like a family trip to Disney World, meeting a celebrity of their choice, or shopping sprees, they also provide on-going events to help enhance the relationships of staff and families as well relationships with other families who might be going through similar situations. This is all a part of their Beyond the Moment initiative. They have Family Camp each Memorial Day weekend at Children's Harbor at Lake Martin where families can relax, spend some quality time together, and possibly make new friends in a stress free environment, knowing that all medical needs of the children will be accommodated for. They also offer activities such as family nights at regional ballparks, Easter egg hunts with the Governor of Alabama, and breakfast with the big man himself, Santa!
This wish granting foundation is truly something to admire! Which is why we, The Mint Julep Boutique, were thrilled to be able to work alongside these magic makers! They set up a scavenger hunt for a very special young lady, Baylor. She ran all over the Auburn/Opelika area, gathering gifts from all of her favorite places! But at stop number 8, she got the biggest surprise yet! Not only did she get a mini shopping spree with us but she found out she and her family are going to DISNEY WORLD!
This experience was definitely one of a kind and we couldn’t be more grateful to the Magic Moments foundation for letting us be a part of it. We hope Baylor and her family have the best time in the most magical place on earth!
