How to Wear Leggings - 10 Ways to Style
Leggings are back in a big way, and we honestly couldn’t be happier! Gone are the days where these stretchy wonders were meant for little ones and workouts–and only available in basic black. Now, there are just as many colors, fabrics and patterns as there are ways you can wear them.
Here are our favorite 10 ways to style leggings–and yes, you can totally wear them as pants!
For Every Day
1. Pair them with a cozy sweater dress to look cute and comfy, but still put together.
A cozy pair of black leggings would look great layered under a chunky knit sweater dress. Wear it loose and casually or cinch your waist with a bold belt. If it’s chilly out, throw on a printed scarf and you’re ready to go. So easy!
2. Bring on the ’90s vibes with oversized layers and chunky sneakers.
Pull your leggings up to your belly button and then throw on a cropped T-shirt, thick socks and your chunkiest pair of sneaks. Top the look off with an oversized jean jacket or a super cozy flannel (bonus points for tying it around your waist!) for the ultimate ’90s-inspired look.
3. Go full-on athleisure with a bright pair of leggings, a loose tee and running shoes.
Athletic styles and bright pops of color are really popular right now. Whether you’re on your way to the gym for a workout or just heading to the local farmers market, this is a great outfit to be comfortably on-trend. Throw on a baseball cap to tie the whole look together!
4. Swap out your jeans for a much comfier alternative.
Jeggings are the ultimate comfort, and you really can’t even tell you’re not wearing actual jeans! Style them as you would any of your other pants with tops, tunics, sweaters, blouses, sneakers, booties and more. Your stretchy little secret is safe with us–promise!
5. Take a walk on the wild side by pairing your leggings with trendy animal prints!
Animal print is so in this season, and what better way to experiment with the trend than pairing it with a staple you feel totally comfortable in? Match a pair of solid black leggings with a flowy top and snake print shoes, or with a leopard print top and classic black ankle booties, for a trend-forward everyday look.
6. Style a faux leather pair with a cotton T-shirt and neutral booties for a breezy, cool look.
There’s something about this combination that feels cohesive and effortless all at the same time! It gives your look just the right amount of edge and can easily go from day to night with some statement accessories.
Dress It Up
7. Pick a pair in a bold print to make a statement.
Heart print leggings and other attention-grabbing prints look really grown up and sophisticated when paired with the right accessories. Remember to keep the rest of your outfit understated (think: a solid color top and simple shoes) so that nothing competes with your bold bottoms. You want the leggings to be the focal point.
8. Dress them up for a day at the office.
When you’re at your desk, we’re sure you’d rather be focusing on your work instead of pesky buttons digging into your tummy! Pair a dark pair of leggings with a bow blouse and mules for a classic, comfortable look that’s still poised and professional.
9. Accessorize for a glitzy outfit that’s worth taking out on the town.
Start with your leggings. Then, add a blazer. Next, pop on some pumps and throw on some tassel earrings. Finally, grab an envelope clutch. You’re ready to go, simple as that!
10. Use them as an alternative to winter tights.
One of our favorite things about leggings is that they’re thin enough to feel weightless, but thick enough to still offer coverage and warmth on chilly days. When the weather gets colder, swap your tights for a pair of leggings and wear a pair of cushioned socks underneath statement booties or over the knee boots.
