The Ultimate Dress Lengths Guide
At Mint Julep, we love cute dresses! There are many reasons why this staple has to be one of our favorites, but the biggest reason we always love to style them is because of their versatility. Dresses come in a variety of lengths and styles, which make them perfect for any occasion.
Whether you are lounging around the house, meeting your girls for a night out or heading to a wedding or church, you can never go wrong with a dress. But in order to find the right dress that suits the occasion you’re styling it for, we suggest you start your search by length. And that’s why we have put together the ultimate dress lengths guide to help you understand your options when it comes to styling and wearing the perfect dress for any occasion.
The Different Types of Dress Lengths
Let’s talk about the many different dress lengths starting from the shortest and then ending with the longest. If you think there are only three lengths—mini, midi and maxi—you may be in for a surprise! Let’s dive in!
The mini dress is commonly known as the shortest length. This dress falls just below your bottom and can either boast a curve-hugging fit or it can be loose and flowy for a fun and playful look. The mini length comes in a variety of styles as well such as babydoll dresses, which are great for more casual outings like running errands, and cocktail dresses for women, which look incredible on you when you are going out with your girls to dance the night away.
Above the Knee Dresses
Between the mini and the midi dress, there is another length that’s just as playful as the mini, but also as polished as the midi. Above the knee dresses fall just above your knee and they tend to be more flowy in styles. These dresses could cinch at the waist, fall straight or have more of a babydoll style that is fitted on top and flares out through the bottom. Above the knee boutique dresses can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
Knee Length Dresses
You may be thinking that the midi dress is the next logical length in mind, but we aren’t quite there yet. The knee length dress falls right below the knee and actually brings a more versatile style that can be worn in both a curve-hugging and flowy way, unlike the above the knee dress. These dresses can also be worn for every occasion as they can boast an A-line or straight silhouette that can be worn with heels, flats, sandals and even fashion sneakers.
The midi dress falls below the knee to the mid-leg area. This length is every business woman’s dream dress. Cute midi dresses make perfect outfit staples for those with a 9-to-5 job and anyone attending a wedding or a formal event. You can easily dress a midi up with a structured blazer for work or give it a more laid-back look with an oversized cardigan. Certainly, midi dresses can also be worn casually to give any outfit a more sleek and polished look.
What Is a Midi Dress? Discover Style Tips and More
We all know and love the maxi style around here. It’s one of the most versatile styles, coming in a variety of silhouettes—from curve-hugging to babydoll and A-line. This style elongates your figure for an effortlessly radiant and stylish outfit. Cute maxi dresses can be a longer style on shorter figures, so we suggest wearing a heel that adds a little extra height to your figure. Maxi dresses can also have a more flowy look and feel, which is why we always keep a belt on hand to cinch the waist if we want a more flattering look.
